Leg No. 7: Châu Ðốc-
You will leave Châu Ðốc on this leg and take the ferry to cross the Hậu Giang River into the town of Tân Châu. The road from the ferry crossing into Tân Châu is a difficult road to follow. Certain parts of the road are wide and nicely paved; other parts are narrow and small. Regardless, you should exercise caution when traveling on this road. Remember, safety is the most important part of the trip. Since the road is difficult to follow, you should ask the locals for directions if you feel lost. We find the people here are friendly and more than willing to help a traveler in need of directions.
The town of Tân Châu is populous in people and lies next to the Tiền Giang River. As such, be careful when riding on roads with many people. It is best to bike slow and constantly alert to pedestrians and vehicles. There are two ways to get to Cao Lãnh from the town of Tân Châu. The first way is to bike along Tiền Giang River on provincial road 942 toward the towns of Chợ Vàm, Phú Mỹ, and Lấp Vò district. After reaching the village of Tân Mỹ in Lấp Vò district, ask directions to a ferry that will take you into the city of Cao Lãnh. The second way is to do what we did, that is, to take the ferry from Tân Châu across the Tiền Giang River. The ferry will drop you off near Highway 30. Highway 30 will take you through the towns of Hồng Ngự, Thanh Bình and eventually to Cao Lãnh, your final destination.
