Leg No. 8:  Ðà Nẵng-Quảng Ngãi (130 km)

On this leg, you will continue biking southeast on Highway 1A toward the towns of Vĩnh Ðiện, Hà Lam, Tam Kỳ, Núi Thành, Châu Ổ, Sơn Tịnh, and Quảng Ngãi.

This leg pales in comparison to the challenge of the previous leg (Huế-Ðà Nẵng).  Although the ride distance is longer, 130 km compare to 106 km of the previous leg, there are no mountain ranges to climb.  As such, the time to complete this leg is faster.  For the most part, you can enjoy the relatively flat and level terrain.  At the same time, you can enjoy the sceneries and relax more at rest stops, knowing that you don’t have to rush to get to the next town before night falls.  Tam Kỳ, a small town nestled between Ðà Nẵng and Quảng Ngãi, is one of the major highlights of this leg.  Tam Kỳ is famous for its chicken delights: rotissiere chicken, fried chicken, boiled chicken, salad chicken, chicken noodle soup, porridge chicken, etc..  After Tam Kỳ, you bike into Quảng Ngãi.  Quảng Ngãi is a small town and has a large river (Trà Khúc River) running through it.  There is a famous food dish special to this town.  The dish is called “cá bống sông Trà” and is made from a type of fish caught in the town’s river.  It is one of the best food dishes on the trans-Vietnam ride, so don’t miss out on it.
