Leg No. 3:  Hạ Long-Hải Phòng (65 km)

On this leg, you will continue biking on Highway 18 for a brief period of time.  Eventually, you will detour on to Highway 10 that will take you into the city of Hai Phong.  This is a relatively short leg.  You will be able to observe many different landscapes along the highway of Vietnam, including the lush rice paddies, the neandering rivers, and the small towns.  To get into Hai Phong, you will eventually leave the province of Quang Ninh, by crossing the Bach Dang River via a ferry.  

Hai Phong is a large city and is heavily populated.  The traffic here can be extremely congested, so be careful as you bike into this city.  Safety is important.  Be extremely vigilant to people and vehicles on the road, so you can avoid accidents.

Hai Phong city boasts some famous sites, including Do son beach and Cat Ba island.  There are famous temples and pagodas scattered throughout the city.  If you have time, spend a day in Hai Phong exploring these famous sites.
